Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy centers on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment. I am driven by a deep passion for empowering students to explore, learn, and grow. I believe in fostering a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. My aim is to be a facilitator of learning, guiding students on a journey of discovery rather than simply delivering information. I am committed to embracing diversity, creating an inclusive space where every student feels valued and inspired to contribute. Through dedication, adaptability, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning alongside my students, I aim to cultivate an environment that nurtures their potential and fosters a lifelong love for learning.

 As
a librarian deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and equity, I understand the pivotal role diversity plays in creating vibrant and accessible library spaces. Recently, I had the opportunity to conduct a diversity audit for the Starkville Public Library. While the audit might not have been comprehensive, it was a significant step towards understanding and addressing the diverse needs of our community.

Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into the importance of representation and inclusion within library collections, programs, and services. It reinforced my belief in the necessity of continuously assessing and adapting library practices to better serve the varied backgrounds, cultures, and identities of our patrons.

I am dedicated to utilizing the knowledge gleaned from this audit to drive positive change in my approach as a librarian. I am committed to integrating diverse perspectives into the fabric of our library by curating inclusive collections, developing culturally responsive programs, and fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected.

Moving forward, I am enthusiastic about contributing these learnings and my passion for diversity and inclusion to a new library setting. I am eager to collaborate with colleagues and the community to ensure our library remains a space that embraces and celebrates diversity, fostering a sense of belonging for all who enter its doors.
